Zigzag 0.70 is a very early version of a very unusual piece of software.
Unfortunately, there is as yet no tutorial. (Soon, soon...) While the directions may be clear to someone who has seen the system demonstrated, you probably have not, and unfortunately for now you are on your own. If you like puzzles and have good spatial relations, though, this could be fun.
Please watch these pages (start at www.xanadu.net) for update information.
If you, too, think this system has remarkable potential in all areas and across the board, please consider becoming a developer or strategic partner. We believe Zigzag may be a can opener that deeply opens and liberates the software world.
We have very novel and sweeping plans that we hope will be of benefit
to many software developers.
We are offering Zigzag 0.70 as shareware for $25.00 U.S. (Updates through Version 1.0 will be free to registered users.)
This is sold strictly as a novelty on an as-is basis. There are no warranties, express, local or implied. We do not represent that this has any practical use.
If at the end of one month you decide to make further use of Zigzag, please pay either by:
And let us know how you like the system. (You may want to hold your suggestions, though, and let your mind run free till you've read about the planned extensions and have the big picture.)
If you don't know anything about Unix, Linux or Perl and you still want to try Zigzag, we've created a Zigzag Demo Diskette which you can use instead. You'll need a "ZIP" program such as WinZip or PKZIP to extract the archive, and a blank diskette. Download and extract the file and follow the instructions in the README file. Have fun!
Zigzag has been successfully run on Linux 2.x and SunOS 5.5.1 but it should run on any platform that supports Perl 5. Please let us know about your success or otherwise on other platforms.
Install the Perl Curses module according to the included instructions, check the Perl execution path in the first line of the Zigzag code and change it if the perl executable has a different path on your system, and set the Zigzag file to be executable ("chmod +x zigzag" on Unix).
You should then be able to run Zigzag according to the documentation mentioned above. Good luck and have fun!
