MAKING YOUR OWN XANADOC

Currently xanadocs may only be built from text data already on the net.
1.  FOR PRACTICE: PUTTING CONTENT FROM THE NET INTO A XANADOC
Using our span selector,  select content spans from existing textfiles on the net that you want to bring  into your xanadoc. (For your convenience, a few textfiles on the net are listed herebelow.)
Thoughts about the creation of man and the universe, by Moe Juste

Some text of Ted Nelson's "Dream Machines"  (1974)

"The Curse of Xanadu" (original or new truncated, incoherent version)

Nelson's 1995 reply, "Lemonade", to "The Curse of Xanadu", and a list of misstatements in the article, "Ararat"

2.  PUTTING UP YOUR OWN CONTENT

We bring in only stabilized content, to make sure it doesn't change and to give every character a permanent address.  This is presently inconvenient until we get a good editor.

So if you want to write new content, first put it on the net as a textfile.  (Sorry.  Easiest way may be to put it in a textfile, then upload the textfile to the Internet Archive.  Be sure to get its network address.)  Then select from it with our span selector.

3.  MAKING XANALINKS
Xanalinks are nothing like weblinks, which are embedded and hierarchical.  A xanalink is a separate file, a table of connection, saying what parts of what documents to connect to what parts of other documents.

The xanalink has many other uses.

Easiest to begin by copying ours.

Examples (xanalinks from our sample document)--

http://hyperland.com/xuCambDemo/mexn86-xanalink.txt
http://hyperland.com/xuCambDemo/jjq7941-xanalink.txt
4.  WHAT YOU CAN LINK TO
Spans in your xanadoc can be linked to text spans on the net, sourcedocs on the net, or other xanadocs on the net.  (Try modifying the sample xanalinks, above.)
5.  WHERE TO PUT YOUR LINKS
Your xanalink must then be put on the net, so it can be listed in your EDL.

We suggest the Internet Archive.

Special case for hiding new content:  if you don't want to show your new content as a live source  (transclusion), then adapt this xanalink-- http://perma.pub/links/hide_new.xanalink.txt

6.  PUBLISHING YOUR XANADOC

The easiest way to publish your xanadoc may be to email your EDL to friends and suggest they paste it into our xanaviewer.  If you're interested, we're sure you can figure out other methods.
